a message from our ceo

Katherine J. Bunting,
PhD., MSN, LNHA,
Chief Executive Officer

Fairfield Memorial Hospital has been a positive influence on our community since it opened its doors in 1950. For almost 70 years, our mission -- to provide easier access to healthcare and to positively influence the health of those we serve -- has been the hospital’s guiding principle.

Since then, hundreds of thousands of individuals and families have received the benefits of Fairfield Memorial Hospital’s vision and our ceaseless efforts to continue to provide excellence in quality healthcare at all of Fairfield’s facilities.

Every friendly touch and kind gesture, every skilled assessment and successful treatment by staff, administration and volunteers is an investment in the health and happiness of our community. We are very proud of the positive effect that Fairfield Memorial Hospital continues to have on every person we serve.

We hear from them every day as grateful patients and their friends and family take the time to tell us about the outstanding and special care they have received and the friendly and family-like atmosphere they have experienced at Fairfield Memorial Hospital and its facilities.

None of this would be possible without donations from caring individuals such as you, supporters who want to ensure that our community’s health needs are met, not just for today, but for generations to come.

We believe that lasting personal and social change can only come about when we all work together. That’s why, at the hospital, strengthening community is our cause. And that’s why we are inviting you to join us in re-dedicating ourselves to positively influencing the future of our community through the planned expansion we describe in this mailing.

Help Fairfield Memorial Hospital live its mission to provide our neighbors, friends and family with the most dedicated, caring providers and staff and the most vital, cuttingedge services our community deserves; and to serve as a strong base for the area’s financial well-being for decades to come.

We have accomplished so much, but there is so much more to do.

We are proud of our accomplishments, and we promise to continue to fulfill our mission through this expansion and our ongoing initiatives to enhance access to healthcare, to integrate the delivery of care so that it centers on the unique needs of each patient, and to collaborate with others to improve health and wellness for all.

Let’s share our vision by making the decision to reach out and to make our community stronger. The community’s support towards the expansion project will make it both successful and sustainable.

We hope you will take that step to be a part of our vision and the future of Fairfield Memorial Hospital. These additional and necessary services will bring tomorrow’s vision to our community. That is how we will continue to build your hospital, your health and your mission!

Where We
Have Been

Fairfield Memorial Hospital began with a vision by a group of community leaders who wanted to provide easier access to healthcare for family and friends. When the hospital opened it's doors in 1950, Fairfield had 84 beds with six physicians and twenty-four nurses.
Over the years, Fairfield Memorial Hospital improved and expanded it's facility and services. Our sole purpose is to provide excellence in healthcare to communities we serve. We are committed to community health education, wellness and preventative medicine while making the citizens of our community healthy -- from individuals and families to schools and neighborhoods -- regardless of their ability to pay. We strive to be highly efficient and good stewards to our resources while working to improve the healthcare in the communities we serve.

Where
We Are

Fairfield Memorial Hospital has been offering first-class healthcare in a rural community for nearly 70 years. Our commitment to the community has been demonstrated in a myriad of ways, not the least of which is the quality of the care we offer.

Fairfield Memorial Hospital is accredited by The Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations, which surveyed and assessed the hospital’s quality of patient care, services, equipment and facility at our request. We are also certified by the American College of Radiology – Mammography Imaging Services and the College of American Pathologists.

Horizon Healthcare, an affiliate of the hospital, is a Certified Hospital-Based Rural Health Clinic with four Board Certified doctors and three certified mid-level providers who care for community members from newborns through geriatrics.

In 2012, Fairfield Memorial Hospital developed a new patient-centered program called “Promise,” designed to keep patients as close to home as medically advisable.

The Promise program’s mission is to have qualified medical staff scheduled to cover call of inpatients and outpatients 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. Each member of the staff is dedicated to meeting patient needs with minimal transferring to out-of-town facilities.

It is also the hospital’s goal to work to lower length of stay and cost per case, to improve reimbursement through better documentation, and to constantly push for higher patient satisfaction.

This patient-centered program helps Fairfield Memorial Hospital and its satellite clinics keep loved ones close to home and helps keep and recruit top-notch physicians, while ensuring the hospitals’ success.

The sole purpose of Fairfield Memorial Hospital is to provide excellence in healthcare to the communities we serve and remain committed to community health education, wellness and preventive medicine.

At the hospital, we focus on improving the personal well-being of all age groups for enhanced quality of living. We give people the knowledge, inspiration and support to stay active, eat healthy and prevent or manage chronic diseases, and we provide them with opportunities to connect with others and get involved with their communities.

From pediatrics to seniors, Fairfield Memorial Hospital is dedicated to making our patients feel secure, knowing that they will receive the best medical care possible by our dedicated, highly qualified and compassionate staff.

Our physicians and staff are committed to giving the best continuity of care that is just a heartbeat from home. Fairfield Memorial Hospital strives to be the best and to constantly improve. Therefore, each and every employee understands they play an active role in delivering our promise to the communities we serve.

These providers and their staff are competent, caring, compassionate, helpful and considerate.

“We are blessed to have many young people, several of them Fairfield natives, who have pursued careers as physicians, and we are doubly blessed to have several of these homegrown physicians who are providing our hospital with a stability that ensures the best care for many years to come,” said Fairfield CEO Kathy Bunting.

Caroline Neff is one of our homegrown physicians who have contracted with the hospital to practice in our community.

“I have been astounded by the tremendous amount of support I have received from people in the community,” Neff said. “The letters, cards and words of encouragement have been continuous, and I am honored to have had the opportunity of returning to give back to the people who have given so much to me throughout the many phases of my education.”

Nicole Fyie is another Fairfield native who has returned to serve at our hospital.

“When I decided to return home upon completion of my residency, Fairfield Memorial Hospital was more than willing to help me on my journey,” Fyie said. “I could not be happier to be a part of such a wonderful team of office professionals, nurses, physician assistants and doctors, a fantastic group committed to providing top-notch care to our community. I am excited to be a part of it all.”

Where We
Need To Be

Fairfield Memorial Hospital offers an array of ever-expanding services for an ever-changing community, responding to current issues and knowing that we can make a difference every single day.

The hospital faces new challenges that have created a greater than ever need for the work we do. Fortunately, where some see obstacles, we see opportunities to make a difference.

Every day we work side-by-side with our neighbors to make sure that everyone – regardless of age, income or background – can learn, grow, and thrive. But we can do so much more...

The expansion will ensure that Fairfield Memorial Hospital can continue to create a safe, healthy, and wholesome environment that will continue to benefit our communities into the future.

Across the nation, hospitals provide access to vital healthcare, but the role hospitals play as major contributors to the local economy is often overlooked. The economic importance of Fairfield Memorial Hospital on the local economy is staggering as it adds enormously to the area’s financial strength.

As we spend resources on the upcoming expansion, we will be creating jobs and salaries in other businesses throughout the community. Fairfield Memorial Hospital will remain a major factor in the future economic development in our area as well as the primary provider of healthcare services.

The economic impact of the expansion will be substantial and widespread. Estimates are that once completed, Fairfield Memorial Hospital’s capital additions of more than $23 million will provide approximately 60 more jobs, with average salaries of $62,000 annually, adding more than $6 million to the overall hospital payroll and economic development.

Above and beyond the monetary impact, Fairfield Memorial Hospital will continue its excellence in health and wellness programs to offer safe and convenient healthcare for the community.

“I was born and raised in Fairfield and grew up with a passion for my community. I worked as a nurse for years and have a firm understanding of the importance of a critical access hospital like Fairfield Memorial. Vic and I are planned giving donors, leaving our real estate to the FMH Foundation. We have a vision for what Fairfield Memorial Hospital can become and we are advocates for the hospital, its expansion and all the services offered to the wonderful community of Fairfield.”
